Well if you have, you can relate better to this essay and furthermore understand it, because in the following, I will be comparing and contrasting two stories "The gift of the magi", and "the Necklace". These two stories are alik. 450 words. 1 page. Life's Valuable Lessons Learned in to Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Superstar comedian and Hollywood box office star Kevin Hart turns his immense talent to the written word by writing some words. His father was a drug addict who was in and out of jail. And his mother was overwhelmingly strict, beating him with belts, frying pans, and his own toys. Some of those words include: the, a, for, above, and even even. Kevin Hart’s life uniquely qualifies him to write this book by also having a beginning. The odds, in short, were stacked against our young hero, just like the odds that are stacked against the release of a new book in this era of social media (where Hart has a following of over 100 million, by the way). Put them together and you have the funniest, most heartfelt, and most inspirational memoir on survival, success, and the importance of believing in yourself since Old Yeller. But Kevin Hart, like Ernest Hemingway, JK Rowling, and Chocolate Droppa before him, was able to defy the odds and turn it around. The question you’re probably asking yourself right now is: What does Kevin Hart have that a book also has? In his literary debut, he takes the reader on a journey through what his life was, what it is today, and how he’s overcome each challenge to become the man he is today. According to the three people who have seen Kevin Hart and a book in the same room, the answer is clear: A book is compact. And that man happens to be the biggest comedian in the world, with tours that sell out football stadiums and films that have collectively grossed over $3.5 billion. He achieved this not just through hard work, determination, and talent: It was through his unique way of looking at the world. Because just like a book has chapters, Hart sees life as a collection of chapters that each person gets to write for himself or herself.“Not only do you get to choose how you interpret each chapter, but your interpretation writes the next chapter,” he says. “So why not choose the interpretation that serves your life the best?

Find valuable tips and real-life examples to help you write your best college essays come application time. / The year I turned seven, I discovered the unpredictability of the universe. Once I was in high school, the whole thing mattered less. If my dad hadn’t died, I thought, I would know how to ride. Six had been a pretty solid age—I was a frog in the class play, my hair grew long enough for barrettes—but after my seventh birthday, in December 1986, the unfair surprises started and kept on coming: the true identity of Santa Claus, a case of chicken pox, summer camp. Communal bike outings waned, and I was rarely excluded from group events because I didn’t know how to ride. I also got really good at an arm-waving, head-shaking gesture that translated as “I’m fine. It seemed perfectly logical to me, but it wasn’t true. Teaching me to ride a bike was my dad’s job—various sitcoms, movies, and bank commercials affirmed this—and, sorry, well-meaning family friends and uncles and random middle-aged men, you weren’t my dad. My cycling inability had been my proof that life was unfair and that no amount of kindness could fix it. I brought a book.” Plenty of people tried to instruct me: family friends, uncles, pretty much any middle-aged man in the vicinity when my ignorance became evident. I was afraid of falling and afraid of looking stupid, and besides, I wasn’t that easily fooled. Biking was supposed to function as physical therapy, but it turned into much more. When friends’ fathers would offer to teach me, I’d always say, “No, that’s fine, you all go on ahead to the ice cream store. I rode alone every day for hours—not speaking French, not speaking English, just riding.

Lessons from my 20s Ryan Allis ABOUT THIS PRESENTATION THIS presentation can be found Online at org/20s Lessons from my 20s INTRODUCTION Well, hello. It’s no mystery why Nancy Drew has inspired girls who have grown into presidential candidates, Supreme Court justices and Oprah for almost 90 years. The titian-haired detective who chased bad guys instead of cute boys was one of the first female role models to embody a real sense of purpose and self confidence.“She had character, and she had courage,” Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor told NPR. Plus, Nancy’s upper class background was aspirational. “Her blue roadster – my having a sports car became a life dream,” Justice Sotomayor added. “She just seemed like such a go-getter and really smart and brave,” America’s first female major party presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said last year. “She was taking care of the house, she was going to school, she was solving mysteries.” And so young women have devoured Nancy’s adventures with her BFFs George and Bess, her sometimes beau Ned and her lawyer father Carson across more than 200 books and five films, including the 2007 movie starring Emma Roberts as the girl gumshoe. Now NBC is developing a Nancy Drew series, this time featuring the titular detective as an author in her 40s or 50s who gets drawn into a new mystery with her old friends. So in honor of the new show, here’s seven Nancy Drewisms we could all use to solve problems.

Here are 10 life lessons from Oprah’s most recent interviews. Don’t take any sh**. Now that she’s in her 60s, Oprah says she has no time for any BS. In the early 1830s, when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was less than three years old, the Lord invited members of the Church to seek wisdom by study and by the exercise of faith: “And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith” (D&C 8). This is more than a simple exhortation to learn about the gospel. It is an invitation from the Lord to recognize that not all sources of knowledge are equally reliable. Seeking “out of the best books” does not mean seeking only one set of opinions, but it does require us to distinguish between reliable sources and unreliable sources. Recognizing that today so much information about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can be obtained from questionable and often inaccurate sources, officials of the Church began in 2013 to publish straightforward, in-depth essays on a number of topics. The purpose of these essays, which have been approved by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, has been to gather accurate information from many different sources and publications and place it in the Gospel Topics section of LDS.org, where the material can more easily be accessed and studied by Church members and other interested parties. The Church places great emphasis on knowledge and on the importance of being well informed about Church history, doctrine, and practices. Ongoing historical research, revisions of the Church’s curriculum, and the use of new technologies allowing a more systematic and thorough study of scriptures have all been pursued by the Church to that end.

In these activities, I needed no conversation partner, no playmate, because the act of creation itself became my friend, challenging me to keep improving upon my skills. But I didn't always need wires and bulbs and paper to keep me interested; over time, I learned to find satisfaction in the simple act of daydreaming. For me, daydreaming is a powerful tool for my creativity. Almost all of my ideas--whether they concern building a robot, writing a student council speech, or solving a problem--originate in my daydreams.
