Small Business Economics An Entrepreneurship Journal publishes rigorous research on entrepreneurship, self-employment, family firms, small and medium-sized firms, and new venture creation. The journal has a broad scope, including entrepreneurs' characteristics, occupational choice, new ventures and innovation. The ability to internationalize has become a competitive necessity for many SMEs, enabling their survival and access to larger markets (Dutot et al., 2014). From an IS research perspective, one important issue is the strategic role played by the firm’s IT capabilities in responding to greater environmental uncertainty and correspondingly greater information requirements, and in enabling the firm’s internationalization performance. Indeed, internationalization obviously brings about greater uncertainty and complexity in the environmental and strategic context of SMEs (Westhead et al., 2004). Looking at this issue through the lens of information technology, such a strategic choice, obligation, adoption, success, would require these organizations to develop a greater information processing capacity (Galbraith,1973), governance structure, or improve their customer knowledge. SMEs are in an especially difficult position for innovation and internationalization as their resources are more limited than larger enterprises and thus they might need greater support in their entrepreneurial activities.

CALL FOR PAPERS. Special Issue of Small Business Economics An Entrepreneurship Journal. ISSN 0921-898X, IF 2.42. “Rethinking the entrepreneurial research process Opportunities and challenges of Big. Data and Artificial Intelligence for entrepreneurship research”. Submission deadline March 31st, 2018. We use regional variation in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (2009-2012) to analyze the effect of government spending on consumer spending. Our consumption data come from household-level retail purchases in Nielsen and auto purchases from Equifax credit balances. We estimate that a $1 increase in county-level government spending increases consumer spending by $0.18. We translate the regional consumption responses to an aggregate fiscal multiplier using a multi-region, New Keynesian model with heterogeneous agents and incomplete markets. Our model successfully generates the estimated positive local multiplier, a result that distinguishes our incomplete markets model from models with complete markets. The aggregate consumption multiplier is 0.4, which implies an output multiplier higher than one. The aggregate consumption multiplier is almost twice the local estimate because trade linkages propagate government spending across regions. This paper analyzes the effects of the lower bound for interest rates on the distributions of expectations for future inflation and interest rates.

CALL FOR PAPERS Special Issue of Small Business Economics “Women Entrepreneurs in Ecosystems” Special Issue Editors Linda Edelman- Bentley University 2018 Call for Papers [PDF] Academy of International Business, Southeast USA Chapter November 1–3, 2018 Nashville, TN Conference Theme Intellectual Property and the Creative Economy Submission Deadline: AIB-SE is excited to announce its 2018 annual conference with the theme: Intellectual Property and the Creative Economy. Since the award winning research of Kogut and Zander (1993, 2003), there has been growing attention on knowledge and the multinational enterprise. As firms seek to develop firm-specific advantages in order to compete worldwide, there is a growing need for innovation, not only at home, but in foreign subsidiaries. Multinational enterprises (MNEs), therefore, must strategically manage the (1) type(s) of knowledge, (2) location(s) for the creation of knowledge, (3) harvest of knowledge and (4) utilization and transfer of knowledge. In particular, the role of intellectual property protection, in providing additional contexts to ownership norms, expectations and outcomes, are now considered inseparable from any creative economy. This year, there is a special track devoted to the conference’s theme. Fittingly, this year’s conference takes place in Nashville, TN, in cooperation with Belmont University. Nashville is home to a vibrant entertainment industry.

Apr 13, 2017. Small Business Economics -An Entrepreneurship Journal Call for Papers -. The age of digital entrepreneurship digital tools and online collaboration to support knowledge sharing and opportunity recognition. Guest Editors. Jean-Michel Sahut, IDRAC Business School France, & HEG Fribourg - University. Social reality is open in the sense that event regularities or correlations are rare at best. Even in the non-social sciences such regularities are mainly restricted to (closed) conditions of well controlled experiment, where they correlate the event of triggering an (experimentally) isolated ‘atomistic’ mechanism and its unimpeded effect. By atomistic is meant having the same independent and invariable effect whatever the context. If, as many have argued, social phenomena are generally neither atomistic nor isolatable (with all social phenomena being constituted in relation to other social phenomena) then how do we study them? What methods are appropriate for social analysis, if social phenomena, or those of interest to social theory, are mostly (or even to a significant degree) generated in open systems? Most contributors do seem to recognise at some level that social reality is open. Few, though, emphasise, and even fewer act upon, the possibility that this feature of social reality bears consequences for method, the focus here. In consequence, little attention is anywhere given to elaborating methods for addressing phenomena generated in open systems. In seeking so to do, there is no suggestion being made that methods (like mathematical modelling) that rest on closures can have no place.
