A secondary school revision resource for GCSE English Literature about sample questions for Shakespeare's Macbeth Introduction Lady Macbeth Coursework Q: 'Lady Macbeth is the real driving force behind the murder of Duncan'. Discuss this statement and decide whether or not you agree. 'Macbeth' is a play about different shortcomings of human nature. It is a play of crime, guilt, remorse and retribution. Macbeth may not be one of William Shakespeare's most complex works, but is certainly one of his most powerful and emotionally intense. Lady Macbeth in general is very controversial - one of Shakespeare's most famous and frightening female characters. She is a profoundly ambitious woman who lusts for power and position. She is a woman of strong will, smart enough to recognise her husband's strengths and weaknesses and ruthless enough to exploit them. She is stronger and more ambitious than her husband.

My support for students writing a coursework essay about Lady Macbeth for Edexcel IGCSE Literature. NOTE to students this blog is in the public domain. If you cut. The story of Macbeth, one of murder, mystery and mayhem! In Macbeth, ‘My Last Duchess’ and ‘The Laboratory’ the playwrights have portrayed the characters with many human flaws by using various writing techniques such as soliloquies and pathetic fallacy. I will be looking into the flaws of these characters and looking into further detail about the way playwrights show these. In all three of the texts there are human flaws that are easy to spot, but also flaws that require you to read between the lines. The story of Macbeth is based around one protagonist, Macbeth himself; at first we see him as ‘one of them’ referring to the evil witches, this soon changes to a warrior but then throughout the play his flaws come out, leading us to revert back to the original thoughts. These texts all involve a murder, possibly the most important parts of each story. Macbeth, The Laboratory and My Last Duchess all include one or more jealous characters who seek revenge, but the stories are all set in different centuries, making the outcomes differ. To me a flaw is a crack in the human personality, leading to a bad outcome; other people may see this as a weakness that takes over them, maybe jealousy.

AQA GCSE English & English Literature. Printable student booklet on Shakespeare coursework - Macbeth. Prepares students for an oral or written coursework on Act II. Macbeth by William Shakespeare As part of my GCSE English "Macbeth" coursework, I had to analyse how Lady Macbeth persuaded Macbeth to murder Duncan, with a detailed reference to Act 1 Scenes 5, 6 and 7 and Act II scene 1. Also, I needed to consider the events and themes of the play so far, the characters of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and the nature of their relationship. At the beginning of Act 1 scene 5, Lady Macbeth is alone on stage with a letter, a letter from Macbeth. All Women are the gentle, loving comrades of their authoritative, powerful men. The letter informs her of Macbeth's meeting with the witches and their report that reflects there is more in them than mortal knowledge. The traditional nature of women would be of no help in the deed that was to be committed. Thus Lady Macbeth calls upon the spirits of darkness to conquer her natural womanliness and fill her instead with the worst of bitterness, wickedness and cruelty. She asks the powers of darkness to cover her thoughts and overpower her, so that their may be no remorse, no natural feeling of regret or conscientiousness. "Come you spirits…..,unsex me…me…..dirtiest cruelty; make thick my blood, stop up th'access and passage to remorse…to my woman's breast….for you….murdering ministers…..mischief….. Come, thick night…..dunnest smoke of hell……my keen knight see not the wound it makes….." The nature of the call, its powerful language and vocabulary has a very strong, dark, shilling effect on the reader. The audience at these moments are reminded of the awful contrast this scene bears to the witches, the evil looking, crooked faces, thunder and lightening, struggle and darkness.

Inside the Mind of Macbeth Some writers concern themselves with inward psychological processes. In these works the focus is the mind of the character and the decisions that he makes. The reader is concentrated on whether the character will make the right choice or the wrong choice. He can stay the same, or learn something about himself and change. In the play Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the mental processes of Macbeth to reveal and explore his character.

Macbeth wants Malcolm out of the way but he feels safe that he will still be king whatever he does. Although Macbeth would love to be king, he does not want to become king by killing Duncan. Introduction Macbeth Coursework Coursework Title: Compare how Shakespeare uses language and dramatic devices to show the change in character of Lady Macbeth over the course of the play (Act 1, Scene 5; Act 1 Scene 7; Act Scene 2; and Act 5 Scene 1)? Shakespeare wrote Macbeth specifically for King James I. The king was a large supporter of the theatre, and Shakespeare's company even became known as "The King's Men." King James I was king of Scotland and eventually became King of England; his ancestry could be traced back to Banquo. When Shakespeare wrote the play, he included several elements that would have appealed to the king: witchcraft and ancestry. First, King James was previously interested in demonology, including witchcraft. Several witches had been foiled in their attempt to place a curse on James when he was king of Scotland. Besides that, characters do not speak directly to the audience but often give soliloquies. Through the dialogues of the characters, Shakespeare's ideas of fate and free will can be seen. Focus generally follows Macbeth and sometimes other characters that affect Macbeth.

Lance sat motionless, not one muscle in his body moved and it appeared as though he had already been killed. Although his expression remained very simple, his brain on the contrary was as jumbled as a jigsaw: he was wracking every nerve and cell deviating plans and escape manoeuvres that might hopefully secure his life but they were nothing more than just theories. Lance remained still keeping his movements to a minimum, the fire place began to crackle and feint sparks appeared as the wood began to singe, he pondered deep into his thoughts almost unaware of his surroundings, so it would appear.
